Undefeated Girls Tennis Team Perseveres Through State

The Juab varsity girls tennis team made it to state this year! On October 6th and 7th they loaded the bus and headed off to Liberty Park, Salt Lake. Their opponents consisted of the top 3A schools in the state. Rigorous battles on the court were fought between teams such as Judge, American Heritage, Manti, Union, South Sevier, Canyon View, and Rowland Hall. Although the Juab girls have absolutely dominated in their region, state was a whole different ball game with competitors who had been playing their whole lives.

Our 1st singles player is Leah Thorn, 2nd being Nataya Day, and 3rd is Marietta Flake. They all won their 1st round, but lost their 2nd rounds to Rowland Hall. The 1st doubles players are Emmy Lovell and Hannah Echols. They made it to the semi-finals, and got 2nd to Rowland Hall. The 2nd doubles team is Emmy Fechner and Lily Fechner. They made it to the quarter finals and lost to Rowland Hall as well.

These spectacular girls have spent countless hours everyday in the sun, on the courts, progressing in their sport, and bonding with each other. The amount of progress they have made this season has been detrimental in their success. Competing against the best schools in Utah at state was a learning experience for them as they persevered through the competition.

We are extremely proud of them and the honor they have brought to our school. Juab tennis has become very well known throughout the state, for being so successful, and it’s all due to the amazing coaches Andy Williams, Brett Lovell, and John Willmore.

Our 2023 state champion Emmy Lovell comments about her high school tennis career saying, “Playing tennis at Juab High School was an amazing experience. The atmosphere, game, coaches, and girls were all awesome. The highlight of the season was the Region and State Tournaments. Everyone competed and it was some fun tennis to watch and participate in. I’m grateful for all of the time and energy all of the girls and coaches put into getting better. Choosing to play tennis was one of the best decisions I’ve made and I’ll always be grateful for the memories I’ve made there.”

Emmy is a wonderful example of the skills that can be learned from tennis. We love her and the Juab tennis girls!
