Boys Basketball Clinches Region and 2nd Seed at State

Juab boys basketball had a very successful regular season. Their overall record was 18-3 with a 11-1 record in region play. This record propelled them past Manti to the two seed in 3A behind Grantsville. Their only loss in region was to North Sanpete with a buzzer beater alley-oop. Notable victories include then-top-five Carbon and San Juan, as well as two victories over then-2-seed Manti. With these two wins we secured the region championship, the first time since my uncle played for Juab in 2002.

Last week, we triumphed over 15-seed South Summit to go to the state tournament for the first time in three years. The 3A state tournament this year is in the Sevier Valley Center in Richfield. Our first game is Thursday against Richfield, a rematch of our loss to them earlier in the season. The game starts at 12:50 but if you plan on coming to watch, the SBOs advise to show up an hour earlier because tickets are limited. Darn pandemic. If we move on from Thursday, we will most likely play Manti on Friday at 9. The championship game will be Saturday at 6:45.

The state tournament is a unique experience and we have a good chance of doing very well. If you want to help our team, come show your Juab pride down in Richfield this weekend. Go Wasps!
