Saint Nicholas Day

What is Saint Nicholas day? Saint Nicholas day is a German holiday celebrated on December 6th.

Legendary stories about St. Nicholas later become part of the inspiration for the modern-day Santa Claus. While St. Nicholas Day is not to be confused with Christmas, there are similarities. Traditions include leaving gifts in shoes (or stockings) or the exchange of small gifts. Another tradition suggests leaving treats for good boys and girls. However, the naughty ones receive a twig or chunk of coal.

On December 5th you leave your shoes near the foyer/living room area and the next morning you have gifts. (Please know Saint Nick died this day so he doesn’t actually give you gifts- it’s your parents that do that). You get the chocolate calendar, an orange, you might get socks or sparkling cider It all depends! It’s a really fun holiday though, you should try it. Make sure to take your dress shoes and put them near the door.
