Girls Golf Swing Their Way to State

The girls golf team has had a pretty eventful season this year. Their coaches are Mr. Welburn and His mom Traci Welburn. They only have one senior on the team and that’s Haiden Black. The girls golf team placed 2nd at Region on Monday, May 1st. State will be held on March 10th and 11th at Glendale.

They’ve had quite a bit of hard tournaments and I interviewed Hailey Hunter and Jordan Bird to tell us a little about golf.

I asked them to tell us a little about how their season is going, along with the tournaments. To qualify for a tournament they said you have to win a 9 hole qualifier to play. Hailey hunter said, “Tournaments are going pretty good, we’ve gotten better and have taken first at a few.” They also said to qualify to play in State is based on the previous tournament scores and how they did at region. They choose the best six girls to play at State.

I then asked them about their favorite things about gold and what the hardest thing has been for them this season. Jordan said her favorite part is chipping. She explained, “chipping is hitting the ball higher over a longer distance into the green.” Hailey Hunter said, “I like the Mountain View course, or Palisades is cool.” They both had said the weather was the hardest for them this season. “We had a ton of indoor practices because of the weather, and tournaments were sometimes really cold and windy and we kept playing through almost any weather condition,” said Hailey.

The girls golf team is having a pretty successful season. Good luck to them at State!
