Girls Wrestling Triumphs at Divisionals
On the 30th of January, the girl’s wrestling team woke up before the break of dawn to head over to Emery High School, where the UHSAA 3A Division B Regional Championship was being held. Divisionals are to test whether girls can qualify for state or not; placement in this tournament determines seeding for the State championship. The lady wasp wrestlers were dead set on placing high.
Of the 11 girls on the team, placements were as follows (by weight order):
100 – Attilee Nielson, 2nd Place
105 – Emily Shoemaker, 3rd Place
110 – Andi Stephensen, 2nd Place
120 – Kyra Pay, 1st & Makynlee Watkins, 3rd
125 – Addison Johnson, 1st
130 – Tashra Pay, 1st & Morgan Holdaway, 4th
135 – Kyra DeFino, 3rd
140 – Samantha Reynolds, 1st
190 – Macee Ercanbrack, 2nd
Every girl that went placed fourth or higher, and the team placed 2nd overall! With the high placements, the seeding criteria will look very good for state placements – let’s hope for at least 7 state champions! If you are able, congratulate the girls wrestling team and cheer them on at state, on the 16th and 17th of February! Good luck!!
