Cheer and Stunt: Central Region Champs

Wasps show resiliency and kindness during competition.

The Cheer and Stunt team competed in their first competition last weekend. Region was held at Westlake High school on Saturday, January 8th. Juab was the first to perform their routine in the 3A Varsity Co-Ed Show Cheer category.

All twenty- three members of the Competition Team performed their best. Their routine featured complex choreography, including elite stunts: full ups to extensions, ticks, and kick full baskets. All four group stunts, as well as both pyramids, were hit flawlessly.

When awards were announced, all of the team’s hard work paid off. Juab won first place in their division, qualifying for state. Emery’s routine placed second. North Sanpete took third overall.

Additionally, Juab was the recipient of the sportsmanship award. Twenty schools 1A through 4A competed for the accolade. The winner was chosen based on the crowd’s participation in the competition and the cheerleaders’ camaraderie shown both on and off the mat.

Isaac Allred, a third-year stunt member, was also recognized for his outstanding jumps. He was a winner of the region boy’s jump-off. Isaac will participate in the state jump-off, where he will defend his 2020 title.

Not only is the cheer team amazing for their accomplishments at region, but also for the huge comeback they have made. Last year, due to uncertainties concerning Covid, the team did not compete. They are back and better than ever, led by their coaches Taraca Davidson and Diana Park. We wish the team good luck as they compete at state on Friday, January 21st!
