Disney Swings in With Another Great Series

Falcon and Winter Soldier is another post-Avengers-Endgame superhero series with six episodes. It’s about Sam Wilson (the Falcon) and Bucky Barnes (the Winter Soldier) teaming up against an anti-nationalist group called the Flag Smashers. We get introduced to a new Captain America because the world doesn’t have one after Steve Rogers retires. Sam meant to give Cap’s shield to the Smithsonian, but it got put back into the government’s Captain America program.

The series touches on military racism with the character of Isaiah Bradley. During the Cold War the Government produced different versions of the soldier serum and tested them on African American soldiers, Isaiah Bradley being one of them. All versions failed but the one that was in Isaiah. Despite his service to the U.S. he got punished for disobeying orders and saving soldiers. During the 30 years that he was in prison scientists, members of the CIA, and HYDRA experimented on his blood.

The series also touches on the gap between politicians and the people they serve. The GRC (Global Repatriation Council) wants to help people back into their houses and jobs. They also want to help get things back to the way they were. I think the good thing about it was we got a look at Sam and Bucky getting along even though Rogers was gone and the shield got put into someone else’s hands and Bucky wasn’t happy about it. One thing that could’ve been better was they got a little bit too political.
