Juab High School Presents: Fractured Fairytales

Juab High School’s drama department produced Fractured Fairytales. They performed four nights, beginning from March 26 and ending on March 29. The show began at seven o’clock each night and ran until about nine.

The story followed Carla Grimm, played by Magenta McDonald, sister of the Grimm brothers. She talks about growing up with her brothers and she shows us some of her own stories. She begins with a story between the Three Bears and Goldilocks in a family gameshow against the Seven Dwarves and Snow White. The scene gave off a Family Fued style show with subtle digs as Goldilocks and Snow White/

As the play progressed, we were introduced to characters of our childhood, to newer character’s like Peter Pipper’s cousin, Penny Pipper. The mini stories were filled with humorous lines and acting that had the audience laughing through the entire thing.

Between each mini scene, Carla returned to the stage, giving us insight into how her writing process works. She shares stories of her brothers and when an idea sparks, she writes. Between each scene, we are introduced to Christine, one of Carla’s characters. Carla describes Christine as one of those characters that appears in every story.

The last mini story involved Little Red Riding Hood and a few Disney Princesses. Carla wrote that after Little Red’s encounter with the Big Bad Wolf, she opened a karate studio to teach other defensless girls in storybook tales. The scene involved an inflatable punching bag ninja.

The play ended to the applause and finishing laughter of the audience. After which, the actors were able to meet family and friends in the common area.
