Snow College Class Registration Shenanigans

It’s that time of year again when students are scrambling to finish their high school and college credits. With the end of the school year approaching, it’s important to make sure you’re caught up so you can actually enjoy your summer. For our upperclassmen, easing the impending anxiety about the next year is crucial if they want to enjoy the warm weather and the tanning season.

Juab High School offers a great opportunity for students to take college classes that count for both high school and college credit. Students must earn a certain number of credits to graduate. Snow College in Ephraim helps students work on earning their associate’s degree quickly and affordably. With class registration season upon us, many students were up at 6 a.m. exactly when the registration window opened. As a result, the website was flooded with parents, high school students, and current college students, all trying to beat each other to the best classes.

To get first pick, students had the opportunity to meet with a Snow College counselor and sign up as a “completer.” This would give them early access to class registration. However, this year, a minor inconvenience made completer registration unavailable for a day. For all students, registration opened at 6 a.m. on April 9th.

During this time, a lot of stress lingers in the halls. The constant race to either meet the deadline or excel beyond expectations is overwhelming. Many things can go wrong: you might miss an email, forget a due date, find that a class is too full, or realize you don’t have the prerequisites. At times, it feels like a pointless game of tug of war.

For the students who may be unsure or on the verge of pulling their hair out, you’re not alone. We are writing this while on the verge of giving up entirely and crawling into bed to cry. To all the students feeling overwhelmed or negative: you’re doing great. Juab students have worked hard and tirelessly to achieve their goals. Many plan to enter trades, pursue college, or travel for their mission. It’s a lot to manage.

Our current seniors feel the heavy pressure of graduation, leaving their childhood behind, while juniors are wrapping up the last tasks on their mile-long to-do list. Sophomores have no idea what’s coming for them, and freshmen… well, they’re just freshmen. We wish them the best of luck.

To all the students feeling uncertain or struggling with the cloud of anxiety clouding your judgment and decision-making, know that you’re not alone. Talk to your counselors and get things sorted out. Remember, “The squeaky wheel gets the grease.” You’re doing great, Juab!
