Find Your Passion by Joining Track

Track and Field Has The Event For You!

Track is starting up for the season. Although the first couple of practices started in the Hive due to the weather, practice is slowly transitioning to being outside.

Track truly is the sport for everyone; whatever you are interested in, track has something for you. There are 18 different events that you can compete in as a member of the Juab track team, and each of them offers a different experience.

Although you might think track is all about running, you could also compete in the field events. At Juab there are three different throwing events you could try. You could throw the javelin, shot put, or discus.

If you don’t like running and you don’t want to try any of the throwing events, then you could try high jump or long jump. High jump and long jump are some of the funnest events in track; they offer a completely different experience than the running events, and they are perfect to add some spice to what could otherwise be a day full of running.

If you are scared of jumping into the bar during high jump or getting sandy from long jump, then you may want to try sprinting. Sprints are some of the most popular events in track, and rightfully so. Sprints give you the opportunity to show off how speedy you can be.

If you want to add some challenge to your sprints, then you could try running hurdles. There are two different hurdle events at Juab, the 300m hurdles and the 100m hurdles (110m hurdles if you are a boy).

If you are in it for the long run, then long distance is the choice for you. There are three different races classified as distance. The 800 (two laps around the track), the 1600 (one mile/four laps), and the 3200 (two miles/eight laps).

If you want to run track for the team aspect, then you may want to try a relay race. There are three different relays you can do: the 4×100, the 4×400, and the medley. Each relay race has a team of four people, but the distances vary for each one. Like the name suggests, in the 4×100, each leg runs 100 meters before handing off the baton. Similarly, each leg of the 4×400 race is 400 meters. The medley differs from the other relays because each member of the team runs a different distance. The first two runners sprint 200 m, the third runner dashes through 400 m, and the final runner runs 800 m, bringing the total distance to a mile.

Overall, the sport of track and field offers something different for everyone, and if you join, you are sure to find an event that you love.
