The Fantastic Junior Prom Floor Show
It’s almost prom time, and on February 24th, Monday, prom practices finally started. The Junior Prom dance is on Saturday, March 1st, and the theme for the dance is Hollywood. The juniors have scheduled the practices for the whole week. Monday, the 24th, the practice is 2nd hour. However, students had to scan in their classes before going to the gym. Tuesday practice was the first hour of the day. Wednesday practice was 3rd hour, Thursday 2nd hour, and lastly, on Friday practice is going to be 1st and 2nd hours.
On Monday morning all of the juniors (and the others participating in the floor show) were called to the gym. People started finding their partners, and then the dancers were split into two. One half made 5 lines to the other side of the gym, facing towards the others who were parallel to the other side of the gym. The slow dance is danced to the song “The Night We Met” by Lord Huron. As soon as the song starts playing, the first two rows from the middle start walking towards the middle and walk into their rows. There are clear signs in the songs where everyone has to start walking. In the two second signs, the rest of the lines do the same thing, holding their partner’s hand. The dance is a slow dance, and it includes box steps, spins, and many other things.
On Tuesday the juniors ran through the FULL slow dance for the first time, after doing it many times over again. On Wednesday the juniors started practicing their fast dance. This dance is quicker paced and is danced to the song “Flashing Lights” by Kanye West. The fast dance is less serious and lets the juniors dance again with our dates, doing handshakes, turns, and many hand movements to the words of the song.
On Thursday and Friday, the juniors will attend their final practice to make the dances look elegant and beautiful. In this practice, the juniors will practice walking out one by one with their dates while our names are announced by the junior class officers. They will also run through the dance for the final time to make sure everything is perfect.
