The Day America went Dark: Tiktok ban, Memes, and Conspiracy
On Jan 19, 2025, the day the world went dark, TikTok users got the notification that the site was down till further notice. The app was shut down due to their parent company, ByteDance, not being American. The company was given two options, to either sell to an American Company, or shut the app down.
But who really cares about all the politics? TikTok was back not even 24 hours later, and we got some funny memes about it.
One trend revealed some deep, dark secrets from some of our favorite creators, like the Duolingo bird revealing who was underneath the costume, or Charli D’Amelio admitting that she was annoying. While users were mourning the loss of the app, other social media sites were celebrating the downfall of TikTok.
Users are still speculating about why this happened. Some people are saying China was involved, using our data to help with their AI software. There’s also more interesting conspiracies involving Elon Musk and President Trump. Another theory states that Mr. Beast will buy TikTok, but none of these theories has been confirmed or denied.
Although the fate of TikTok is still undetermined, we still have The Clairon. The real way to get all your news.
