Speech and Debate at the Templar Trials

          This last weekend, the Juab Speech and Debate team attended the Templar Trials in Manti. The team arrived at seven in the morning for leave time before making the hour-long drive to Manti High School. The day consisted of 6 rounds, an hour each, and sleep deprivation hitting midway through the day. 

          Under the guidance of Coach Morgan Palmer, the team brought home a 2nd place trophy, winning 420 points with 16 entries. The placements are as follows: Lincoln Douglas: Bailey Cragun 1st, Jayme Cragun 2nd, Liesel Kretchmer 5th; Public Forum: Logan Crippen & Lily Andrus 5th; Policy: Rory Allred & Melaina Bork 3rd, Congress: Alice Bingham 4th, Dani Coray 7th, Dramatic Interp: Anna Petersen 1st, Rachel German 4th; Informative: Kristen Coray 5th; Oratory: Jayme Cragun 2nd; Foreign Extemporaneous: Melaina Bork 3rd; Impromptu: Jayme Cragun 2nd, Gabby Petersen 4th. 

          The team will attend another tournament this coming weekend at Providence Hall’s Patriot Powerhouse on January 17-18. This will be the last tournament before the team heads to the National Qualifiers and then the 3A Region at Manti in February. The team will continue to work hard during their class period and at early morning practices to bring home a gold trophy at Region, their two-year region champion streak.
