Juab Cross Country: From Start to State
Juab’s Cross Country Team Went to State
Cross country wrapped up their season at state on the 30th! All of the miles the cross country has been putting in since the summer started paid off. Although the team is sad that the season is over, they were all happy with how they raced at state. The team brought two boys, sophomore Colton Hall and junior Ryker Worwood. The girls team brought three athletes: senior Kenzee Slater, senior Tajia Davis, and junior Liesel Kretchmer.
The team raced at Sugar House Park for the first time in at least 3 years. Usually the runners race at the Regional Athletic Complex in Salt Lake. The team reported that Sugar House made for a tough, long course, but they were all grateful that it wasn’t snowing during the races.
When asked about the season, Tajia Davis said her favorite memory was “playing games on the bus ride home from meets.”
Colton Hall thought the best part of the season was “running up J hill during summer practices.”
Liesel Kretchmer loved “early morning weekend runs with Kenzee and Tajia.”
To get ready for state, the team had several pre-race traditions. Tajia Davis said that she always does her hair the same way and eats pasta the night before a race.
Liesel said her game day superstition was “I always listen to OneRepublic or Imagine Dragons on the bus ride to fall asleep and then have an apple sauce thirty minutes before my race.”
Colton said before every race he would “eat good luck goldfish” before every race.
Overall, the team had a great season! Despite racing their last cross country race for the year, many team members plan on running indoor track in the winter and track in the spring. The whole team put in so many miles throughout the season, so be sure to congratulate them when you see them around the school.
