Powderbuff serves up a win

Which grade is the best at volleyball?

Monday evening after powderpuff, everyone rushed into the high school gym to watch powderbuff, AKA boys volleyball. Because the boys will have a volleyball team this spring, this was a good opportunity to see what the games will be like.

The first game of the night was between the seniors and the freshmen. After warming up, the freshmen boys got first serve, to the dismay of the seniors. Luckily, the senior boys responded to the competition and were able to take the lead.

Before long, a pit had formed behind each class. The senior class even modified some of the cheers, chanting, “WE ARE SENIORS COULDN’T BE PROUDER, IF YOU CAN’T HEAR US SAY IT LOUDER!!”

The boys were coached by the members of the girls volleyball team. Seniors Tehga Kyle and Aiden Barney guided the senior boys to victory. The senior class had a huge turnout with an intimidating starting six and a full bench of subs.

The next game was the juniors versus the sophomores. This game was neck and neck, with neither grade seeming to be able to maintain a lead of more than three points. The junior class motivated their team by moving their pit of the bleachers and to the sidelines. With the extra motivation, the juniors wrapped up the set with a victory over the sophomores.

For the final game of the tournament, the seniors faced off against the juniors. To kickoff the game, the seniors formed a tunnel onto the court and announced each player as they ran on. After a quick motivational talk from the coaches, the game began.

The juniors kept their momentum from the previous game and got some quick points to win the set 25-18. But unfortunately for the juniors, it didn’t end there, because this game was the championship and the teams got to play best two out of three. The juniors and seniors swapped sides and got straight back into the action. The juniors weren’t fazed by the change in sides and won the second set and the championship.

After the game, the teams shook hands and went out to celebrate the night of fun by getting french fries from the student body officers. This only leaves one question for next year: will the juniors become back-to-back champions?
