Juab Jogs Into a New School Year

Mrs. Squire’s New Class

Mrs. Squire’s new walking and jogging class is the talk of the school. Students have eagerly enrolled in this newest class at Juab High School. Walking and jogging is offered in A3 and B1 this semester, with more openings next semester. Not only is the class offered by the high school, it is also offered by the junior high.

Mrs. Squire eased students into the class by having them walk a timed mile so she could see how far the class could walk in an hour. Before long, the classes graduated from walking the track, and they are now touring the town on their walks. Each day the class walks somewhere different. The classes have walked by the cemetery, around the gun range, and, of course, on the track. Each route is exciting for students. Even the track is enjoyable because Mrs. Squire plays music while students walk. Mrs. Squire sometimes adds variety to the walks by doing “getting to know you walks,” where the students are encouraged to walk with someone new and get to know them.

Unfortunately, all P.E. classes were interrupted by the bats, which made it so students were unable to dress for the class period. The class also had to relocate temporarily and meet in Mrs. Squire’s classroom in the hive rather than the hallway by the locker rooms. Luckily, the bats are now out of the school, and Mrs. Squire’s class is back to their normal routine.

Now that the class is back to normal, Mrs. Squire has started tracking her students progress and keeping track of the miles they walked. The class’s goal for the semester is to walk all the way to New York on the east coast. Each class has about thirty students, and each of them walks a little over two miles each day. If the students keep this up, they will make it to New York in no time at all!
