Juab Speech and Debate

Juab’s speech and debate had a heck of a year as they finished third place! The team had a lot of bright and intelligent students who did so well. The school had their back as they announced throughout the building how well they had done. One student who was a part of the team said this, “I learned to be more confident.” This is a very valuable life skill that high school students are learning through speech and debate. Many people may be on the fence about joining speech and debate, but a team member said,  “It was my first year trying speech and debate and I absolutely loved it!” With so many cool friends and others to help a first timer out, it would be a good idea to give it a try. They also said, “If you are looking for something to be a part of, it doesn’t hurt to try speech and debate.” I think that is so true; I believe more students need to get out of their comfort zones and talk to more people, and this is a perfect opportunity to do so.

The speech and debate team is always looking for new people to join. Right now, they are preparing for next year’s competition to come back even better. They are preparing by recruiting new people and researching new ways to handle certain situations that may occur. One thing I’ve learned about speech and debate is that it is a very factual argument. You must know your topic well and know all of the points and factors that come into play. It is a great opportunity to learn about different subjects and expand your knowledge.
