The Phoenix Makes Its Way To Top 5

As the Art Sterling Scholar, Tessa Astle was able to attend the 50th Annual Utah All-State High School Art Show in Springville. In the art show, there were more than 1,000 submissions, and only five people were picked as Honorable Mentions.

Tessa made a beautiful painting with watercolor and ink pens. Senator Burgess Owens chose the five Honorable Mentions, and Tessa’s art was picked. Owens presented her award for her mention, and her piece was chosen to be the cover of this year’s book for the art show.

Tessa named her art piece “Reborn.” The reason she decided to call it “Reborn” is because of the legend of the phoenix. When they die they burst into flames and are reborn and she wrote it because she likes to think of “being able to start over and have new beginnings.”

Seniors have the opportunity to become a Sterling Scholar, but Tessa is a junior. She was accepted to be a Sterling Scholar because of her good grades and achievements. She is graduating early.

Congratulations Tessa!
