All I want for Christmas is… The Flashlight Dance

The flashlight dance is a tradition that has been going on for at least 40 years. It is definitely a crowd favorite and people wait to see it all year.

I, as a member of the drill team, love the dance every year and everytime I hear the first note I get ready to do the dance. It’s just muscle memory at this point. It’s super nice for us because it’s right in the middle of our competition season so it’s nice to have a dance that is less stressful and difficult.

This ongoing tradition is the highlight of our December halftime performances. Most of the town will come down to the high school for the basketball game mostly for the halftime show. It only gets performed about three times a year, two at basketball games and one on the last day of school before Christmas break during the assembly.

Something about doing a dance in the pitch black with red and green flashlights with Christmas music playing is just the best way to ring in  the Christmas spirit. Mariah Carey’s “All I want for Christmas Is You” will probably always make me break out into the dance.
