Graduation From a Graduate’s Perspective
Written by Christian Dye
Graduation is just around the corner! Speaking as a graduate, there are a lot of
emotions going around. My whole life is going to change more than it ever has before. I’m going
to college in the fall and short of going to school just about everything else in my life is going to
change. My whole life I’ve lived under my parents roof, eaten off of their table, slept in their
house and for the first time in my life I’m going to have to provide for myself. I’m always
welcome at home of course and can always come back and live at home, but what fun is that? For
the first time in my life I’m going to be the only one making sure I eat three meals a day. I can
hardly figure out one meal a day let alone three, every day.
I’m also going to be living away from responsible people. I’ll be living in a dorm with a bunch of other people in the same boat. I’m just
as immature and just as new to living by themselves as I am and that’s comforting to me. A
bunch of people are going through exactly what I’m going through, and people have already gone
through what I’m going through and they’re fine! Everyone goes through this
or will go through this just fine so there’s no need to worry too much about it. As we open this
new chapter of our lives let’s not go into the new, and very different, section of our lives with
fear and anxiety about all the bad that could happen, but with hope and excitement for all the
good that to come.
